Ideas and influence
Influenced by John Ruskin, the movement believed beautiful, useful objects could improve everyone’s life. Simple forms and plant motifs came to the fore in furniture, textiles, wallpaper, ceramics and book design. It paved the way for Art Nouveau and, in the 20th century, for the Bauhaus approach to design.
